I know someone else who's a fractional CMO and she has some of the same challenges you mentioned. I'm curious how did you go about finding global teaching opportunities?
Hi Bette, this teaching opportunity is local. The company is based in Sydney, and classes are held in-office and via Zoom. They sell courses across Asia to students looking to study in Australia. During my interview with the GM, they mentioned plans to expand their offerings, so there *may* be potential for me to teach/work overseas with them one day.
I landed this through a paid community (membership) of which I’m part. The membership aims to help you build your marketing and personal brand. The group leader helped me optimize my LinkedIn profile for my transition, and on a check-in call, I shared my transition and desire to teach. On that call one of the members - who had seen me active in the group for 6+ months - offered to send my details to her boss.
I’ve also searched LinkedIn Jobs and found a few companies hiring part-time/casual instructors, so I’ve applied and am waiting to hear back.
In my experience, opportunities come from both networking and active searching. So my suggestion for your friend is to optimize their LinkedIn profile, engage in communities, share their goals, and actively explore job listings - doors open when you put yourself out there and don't just wait for things to happen.
